Chorus Auditions for the 2025-26 Season
Resonance Works is holding auditions on Wednesday October 29, 2025 for new singers for the major choral work in our 2025-26 season, Reena Esmail’s Malhaar: A Requiem for Water, to be presented March 6 & 8, 2026 in Carnegie and Shadyside.
Reena Esmail brilliantly brings together Indian and Western classical music traditions to create a sonic world that welcomes and uplifts. Malhaar is the raga that beckons rain. Written during the California droughts, Malhaar: A Requiem for Water reflects on humanity’s relationship with our planet, mixing texts from the traditional Latin Requiem mass, poetry by Wendell Berry, William O’Daly, and interspersed Hindi. Esmail calls this a “hopeful'“ requiem: “While the collective loss has been so tremendous, we can still hold out hope that if we change our relationship to the earth, we might beckon the rain back.”
Resonance Works casts top-tier professional and emerging professional artists from Pittsburgh and around the country in principal and featured artist roles, and seeks ensemble singers with a high level of vocal proficiency and independent musicianship skills who are at home in a professional setting. Most chorus roster spots are cast with volunteers.

Once your application is received and reviewed, you will be contacted to schedule an in-person audition time if appropriate. Video submissions will also be accepted, but in-person auditions are highly preferred. Please include a link in your application, or email it to auditions@resworks.org
For an in-person audition, please bring a solo piece that you sing well, and that demonstrates your vocal abilities. You may also be led through some vocal exercises to explore your range, and asked to do a short sight-reading excerpt.
